This standalone is a fun but unhinged read. The male main character is sweetly obsessed with his fated mate but does a few morally black things, including killing someone for upsetting the female main character. There is a stalker element to the first half of the story. There is no plot outside of the romance. This book is not made to be complicated. It is a simple romance read set in a classic fantasy setting.

The male main character is bonded to the female main character's twin sister, but there is NO cheating. The male main character never has romantic feelings for the twin sister, and the twin sister has a secret boyfriend the entire book. It is mentioned that when the two main characters are teenagers (and not even friends at that point) the female main character had a boyfriend and slept with him. It is not on page, but it is mentioned. She later has a longterm boyfriend but she does not sleep with him. This is an HEA (happily ever after) for the two main characters.
Quick synopsis:
Roman is a fae prince who meets Violet when they are 12 years old. They form a friendship, and while they're a little young to have romantic feelings for each other, they do like each other. When Roman is 13, he is granted a fated mate by the gods. Violet feels deep down it will be her, but the gods bonded Roman to Violet's identical twin sister, Vivian, instead. Roman and Vivian do not have romantic feelings for each other. Vivian only wants to be mated to Roman to be queen, and Roman wants to be mated to Violet. Vivian also has a secret boyfriend from about the age of 14/15 and they stay together throughout the first half of the book. Roman spends 6-7 years looking for a way to transfer the bond from Vivian to Violet.
The first half of the book jumps from year to year between the ages of 12-25 to show their relationship throughout the years. The second half of the book is there relationship once they get together.
